Dear Ms. Zuniga,
It's no secret that Weld County has a rich history in agriculture_ Home to more than 4,000 farms, Weld County is consistently a
state and national leader in agricultural production thanks to those who devote their lives to providing the food, nourishment and
agricultural products we all depend on.
Of course, Weld County's rich agricultural tradition can only grow if our young people continue to learn and apply skills they can
use to enrich both their personal and professional lives. When we see this happen, it brings us great pride. That's why we'd like to
congratulate Roosevelt's FFA program and the meats evaluation team for winning the state championship at the Colorado Career
Development Event in May and earning the opportunity to represent Colorado in November at the 2023 National FFA Convention
and Expo in Indianapolis!
This letter is about more than simply recognizing excellence. It's about congratulating team members Raelynn Hanagan, Rhiannon
Willard, Arieanna Castro anc Mailie Gutierrez for showing teamwork and the analytical problem -solving skills needed to identify
various cuts of meat while showcasing mathematical skills to do so. Having and utilizing these skills is impressive in itself but
being able to stand out among more than 30 other meat evaluation teams and earn the title of champions is particularly inspiring.
While the team looks ahead to nationals, we encourage them to reflect on and enjoy what they've accomplished thus far. Not only
did Roosevelt earn a team championship, but Raelynn and Rhiannon finished first and second individually, an accomplishment that
reflects their knowledge and ability to stand out as leaders and we want to congratulate them on their strong performances.
Know that the impact of the state championship is far-reaching. It adds to the strength of Weld County as an agricultural staple
nationwide as well as to the legacy of Roosevelt's FFA program. Perhaps what's most exciting is what it may mean for the future
as we believe the traits used to win a state championship can also help our young people achieve other goals. We encourage them
to never forget the feeling of being a champion or the work that went into earning that designation.
Winning a state championship is truly a rarity, and we join Roosevelt's FFA team and community in celebrating the achievement!
Thank you for making your school, community and Weld County proud. Best of luck at nationals!
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
