NATIONAL FORENSIC SCIENCE WEEK
SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2023
WHEREAS, forensic science is a critical element of law enforcement. The work done by
forensic professionals helps bring criminals to justice as well as provides closure to victims
and their families; and
WHEREAS, National Forensic Science Week provides an opportunity to recognize and thank
those professionals who've devoted their careers to processing evidence. Not only does
their dedication strengthen law enforcement overall, but by extension, it helps to make the
community safer; and
WHEREAS, For the past 10 years, the Northern Colorado Regional Forensic Laboratory has
served as a shining example of what professionalism and teamwork can mean to forensic
science. Behind its walls, members of the Weld County Sheriff's Office, Larimer County
Sheriff's Office, Fort Collins Police Department, Loveland Police Department, Greeley Police
Department and Colorado Bureau of Investigations work together to process evidence
quickly and to the highest standard possible; and
WHEREAS, since its inception, the Northern Colorado Regional Forensic Laboratory has
processed evidence for more than 13,000 cases and has been internationally accredited for
excellence since 2016 in the disciplines of forensic biology, drug chemistry, latent prints,
firearms and digital media.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners
that September 17-23, 2023, be known as National Forensic Science Week. We join the
nation in thanking our forensic science professionals for the high -quality work they do that
has made an impactful difference on the lives of victims and their families and on the
criminal justice community in Weld County and throughout northern Colorado.
