BOX 758 GREELEY, CO 80632 Cora Lanter Severance High School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director 1200 Hidden Valley Parkway Severance, CO 80550 Dear Ms. Lenten, For what was truly a historic season, the Weld County Board of Commissioners wishes to congratulate coach Kevin Johnson and the Severance Knights baseball team on winning the Class 4A state championship June 3. State championships are always special. However, the first team state championship in school history is particularly unique. While the accomplishment speaks to the talent, hard work and determination of our young people, it also will serve as an example for future generations of Severance High School students to look toward when they set their sights on athletic or academic goals. Fresh off a close 1-0 state title victory against Golden, the memories of a championship season are still very much in the minds of players, coaches, and parents. We join in their excitement and encourage them to never forget what it took to accomplish such a feat. Beyond athletic talent, traits such as hard work, teamwork, and perseverance were used to become champions. Those same traits can be used to achieve other great things in life, but the fact that our young people have already utilized them to achieve athletic excellence makes us even more excited for what their future holds. Although players may not notice, a state championship makes them leaders in their school and community, and leadership is an important quality to have when establishing and achieving future goals. The board likes to recognize Weld County state championship teams with a proclamation in person at a board meeting. For spring sports this presents a challenge, however, as school is out, and families have work and vacation plans that we don't want to interrupt. Delaying the recognition until next school year isn't ideal as many seniors have moved on to college or the next stage of their lives, making it difficult to be recognized in person. Please accept this letter as our formal recognition of the state champion Severance Knights. We congratulate players, coaches, and parents on joining Weld County's championship culture and more importantly starting one at Severance High School, which we hope grows in the coming years! Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ComkkvA:co.-}-;0,15 O11101x3 2023-1732 Scct K. BOX 758 GREEL,EY, CO 80632 Chad Eisentrager Mead High School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director 12750 County Road 7 Longmont, CO 80504 Dear Mr. Eisentrager, The Weld County Board of Commissioners congratulates coach Katie Hernandez and the Mead girl's lacrosse team for winning the Class 4A state championship on May 19. There are certainly many special moments for the team to look back on when remembering this season: winning a state championship in the program's first year, finishing the season 16-2 on a 13 -game win streak and the fulfillment of overcoming early -season struggles to improve and be called champions. State championships are special for many reasons. They symbolize excellence, the ability to persevere and the ability to achieve greatness at a high level. They mean a lot to team members, coaches, the community, and high school as well. Beyond what they symbolize athletically, state championships capture memories and a bond among teammates that will be remembered long after high school ends. We share in the excitement and pride felt in the Mead community and want to congratulate team members, coaches, and parents on a memorable season. We also want to encourage the team to never forget the feeling of being champions. It's a goal every team strives for, but only one gets to accomplish. It's important to remember that this championship can be the start of many great things if our young people remember to utilize many of the same traits they used this season — hard work, teamwork, dedication, and persistence — to achieve other goals in life. Every year, we invite state champion teams in Weld County to a board meeting to be honored with a proclamation in the school's honor. Doing this during the spring season presents a challenge, however, as school has ended, and we don't want to interfere with vacation plans or work schedules. Delaying the recognition until the start of next school year isn't ideal either as seniors have moved on to the next stage of life, making it difficult to be attend a board meeting. Please accept this letter as our recognition of the Mead High School girl's lacrosse team. It brings us great pride to see Weld County's young people succeed, and we congratulate the Mavericks on a truly special season. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Mike Freeman, Chair Kevin D. BOX 758 GREELEY, CO 80632 Erie High School Athletic Department 3180 County Road 5 Erie, CO 80516 To the Erie High School Athletic Department: Capturing a state championship is truly remarkable achievement, and the Weld County Board of Commissioners is writing to congratulate the Erie Tigers girls golf team on winning the Class 4A state championship in May! Every sport is challenging. Golf is unique in that it continually tests the mental strength and preparation of competitors. So, for Erie to win its second consecutive golf team championship speaks to the strength of team members and coaches as well as their overall talent. While we are proud of the individual performances that made a state championship possible — junior Logan Hale and sophomore Hadley Ashton finishing first and second, respectively — we know that all team members, coaches, and parents worked toward this goal and supported one another throughout the season. That support is truly what makes us proud of the Erie Tigers girls golf team. Many memories fade over time, but the friendships formed and bonds made among all involved with the girls golf team are captured in a state championship trophy. Those times shared in pursuit of excellence are special and add to the experience of high school athletics. We join Erie in celebrating its state championship and encourage team members to never forget the feeling of being called champions. This can be the start of many great things if team members utilize many of the same traits that made them successful this season and apply them to future goals. We encourage team members to never forget that their effort has made them leaders in their school and community, and we are confident that greater achievements await them in school and in life. Typically, we like to recognize Weld County state champion teams in person at a board meeting. We realize how difficult this can be in the spring, however. School is out, and team members have work and vacation plans, which we don't want to interrupt. Postponing the recognition until next year makes it difficult for this year's seniors to take part, as they've moved on to the next chapter in life. Please accept this letter as a formal recognition of the team's accomplishment. We join team members, coaches, and parents in celebrating the Class 4A champions! BOX 758 GREELEY, CO 80632 Steve Longwell & Zac Lemon Eaton High School Athletic Directors 1661 Collins St. Eaton CO 80615 Dear Mr. Longwell and Mr. Lemon, Perfection. Throughout athletics, coaches champion the concept. Teams who achieve a perfect record — even those who come close — are revered and held in high esteem. With the Reds' victory over University June 4, and the team winning the Class 3A state championship for the third year in a row, Eaton achieved a perfect 29-0 record. The Weld County Board of Commissioners wishes to congratulate coach Todd Hernandez and the entire Eaton baseball team on a special season. It's no secret Eaton High School has built a baseball dynasty founded on years of hard work, perseverance and the continual cultivation of talent, something made possible only by the continued commitment of players, coaches, and parents through the years to be the best. It's that commitment that makes every championship season special. Players show tremendous resolve, dedication, and an unwavering spirit to continue a championship tradition. Such dedication is certainly admirable, and we encourage players to pause, reflect and enjoy what they've accomplished. While several players are moving onto collegiate baseball careers, it's important to remember future championships are not guaranteed. However, to Eaton High School and the entire RE -2 community, members of this team will forever be known as champions - a truly remarkable achievement and one that brings us great pride. There's no telling what the future holds, but as team members encounter life's challenges, we hope they draw back on the experiences of this season as motivation when striving toward new goals. There were certainty challenges not reflected in stat sheets that team members overcame this year, and we truly believe that same determination can help players overcome future challenges and achieve many more memorable moments. Every year, we aim to honor state champion teams from Weld County in person at a board meeting. We realize the challenge of doing this in the spring, however. School is out, players have work or vacation plans we don't want to interfere with, and with seniors graduating and focused on the next stage of life, it makes it difficult to bring everyone together at a board meeting. Please accept this letter as a formal recognition from the Weld County Board of Commissioners on the baseball team's stellar season. We join the team in celebrating and congratulate the Eaton Reds on a remarkable accomplishment. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WAIL' Mike Freeman, Chair g0) S Kevin D. BOX 758 GREELEY, CO 80632 Weston Kurz Dayspring Christian Academy Executive Director 3734 W. 20`h St. Greeley, CO 80634 Dear Mr. Kurz, It's with pride and excitement that the Weld County Board of Commissioners congratulates coach Joan Jackson and the Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles girls track and field team for winning the Class 2A state championship on May 20, 2023, with a team total of 90 points! The excellence of many participants at the state meet made the championship possible. Junior Eboselulu Omofoma finished in first place in four events: the 100 -meter hurdles, 300 -meter hurdles, high jump, and triple jump. Her sister, senior Odone Omofoma, won the 100 and 200 -meter dash and junior Angela Friedman finished seventh in the 800 -meter dash. While individual performances stand out, we know the effort is reflective the overall desire of the team to continually improve during the season. We can imagine the excitement shared among team members, coaches, and parents when the Eagles were named state champions. Such a feat is not an easy one to accomplish and is reflective of talent and many other things, such as hard work and determination, to name a few. Perhaps what makes us most excited about this accomplishment is what it may mean for the future. The traits mentioned above, along with several others, will serve as an asset when team members set other goals in life. A state championship serves as early proof of the great things our young people can accomplish when they set a goal and work toward it, and we believe this is the first of many great things that await members of the Dayspring track and field team. For several years, the board has honored state champion teams by inviting them to a board meeting to have a day proclaimed in the school's honor. We realize this is a difficult task in spring. By the time spring seasons conclude, the school year is out, and the students have vacation plans or work obligations that make it difficult to attend a board meeting. Postponing the recognition until the next school year isn't ideal as we know seniors from this year's team have moved on to the next phase of their lives and likely can't make it to a meeting in person. Please accept this letter as formal congratulations on a truly special season. We join Dayspring Christian Academy in celebrating the Class 2A state champions and can't wait to see what the future holds! Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Mike Freeman, Chair Kevin P.
