HomeMy WebLinkAbout20230916.tiffPROCLAMATION NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK APRIL 3-9, 2023 WHEREAS, the week of April 3-9, 2023, is National Public Health Week, and the theme is "Centering'and Celebrating Cultures in Health;" and WHEREAS, since 1938, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE) has conducted population -based health promotion and prevention to make Weld County a healthier place to live, work, play, and study; and WHEREAS, public health professionals help over 328,000 residents of Weld County to prevent and mitigate a range of health issues, including disease outbreaks such as, measles, hepatitis -A, food -borne disease outbreaks, and a variety of chronic diseases; and WHEREAS, public health action, together with scientific and technological advances, has played a major role in reducing and, in some cases, eliminating the spread of infectious disease, and in establishing today's disease monitoring and response systems; and WHEREAS, extensive community partnerships have helped to strengthen the public health response in Weld County and continue to collectively address complex health issues such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, which are still the leading causes of death and disability in Colorado. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that April 3-9, 2023, be known as National Public Health Week. We call upon the citizens of Weld County to observe this week by helping our families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and leaders to better understand the value of public health and supporting great opportunities to adopt preventive lifestyle habits in light of this year's theme, "Centering and Celebrating in Health."
