ACTS OF CONNECTION MONTH
JANUARY 2025
WHEREAS, approximately half of U.S. adults report experiencing loneliness, and the
harmful consequences of a lack of social connection can be felt in our schools, workplaces,
and civic organizations, where performance, productivity, and engagement are diminished;
and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Surgeon General reports the mortality impact of being socially
disconnected is similar to that caused by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day, and, loneliness
poses significant threats to physical, mental, and emotional health, increasing risks for
conditions such as depression, substance -use disorder, and chronic disease; and
WHEREAS, understanding and addressing the factors that contribute to loneliness and
disconnection are vital for building healthier, more connected communities; and
WHEREAS, Acts of Connection, an initiative of Thriving Weld and the Weld County
Department of Public Health and Environment, seeks to raise awareness of the health risks
of loneliness and isolation, to educate the public on the importance of connection, to
provide resources to foster healthy relationships and to strengthen community bonds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners
that January 2025 be known as Acts of Connection Month in Weld County and encourages
individuals, families, and organizations to visit . the Health Department's website,
www.weldhealth.orq to learn how they can cultivate a culture of connection and take
meaningful steps to reduce loneliness and isolation in our community.
