KINSHIP CARE MONTH
SEPTEMBER 2025
WHEREAS, Weld County remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety, stability, and
well-being of children by supporting kinship placements that offer nurturing, family -
centered environments where youth can heal and thrive; and
WHEREAS, kinship placements are proven to reduce trauma, maintain vital family and
cultural connections, and promote stronger emotional, behavioral, and educational
outcomes, with research showing children in kinship care are 57% more likely to reunify
with their parents; and
WHEREAS, kinship caregivers, whether relatives or close family friends, demonstrate
extraordinary commitment, often stepping into caregiving roles with little preparation
and limited access to the supports provided to licensed foster parents; and
WHEREAS, Kinship Care Month is a time to celebrate the resilience of youth who thrive in
kinship care, uplift the contributions of grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and other
caregivers, and recognize Weld County's continued leadership in promoting equity,
dignity, and family unity through its kin -first culture.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Weld County Board of County Commissioners
that the month of September be known as Kinship Care Month.
