Paul , Director Env i lr(:nl9N.:r'i'•:c l Health 1555 -• 17tn Avenue Greeley, Colorado 60631 Dear Dr. Yoder: We have reviewed the engineering report for SP - S beats, incorporated, prepared rry stocky Mountain Consultants, Inc. The wastewater treatment -system for the 5 head per day packing plant is designed to treat 1 ,500 gpd of water containing 84 pounds COD per day. A combination settliiiy-•alr- float, ation unit will remove grease and large setteable materials before discharge to an aeration tank with 23-day holding capecity. The effluent from tyre .aeration tank would still -be quite strong (550 plus-minus milli- grams per liter DOD) and would not be suitable for discharge to State waters; teer•efore, the -effluent will go to the oversized runoff control facility at Sargent Farms, Incorporated Feedlot, -where It will be used for irrigation. The design .appears conservative and does not consider any IbUD removed in the floatation tank or lagoon. in addition, it is felt that feedlot run- off will be the controlling factor in the lagoon and the treatment system effluent should not cause any problems beyond those expected with the feed- lot runoff; therefore, we feel the proposed system represents a design based on acceptable engineering _practice. if you have questions -or if we may be of assistance In review of plans and specifications when submitted, please contact us. Very truly yours, FOR DIRECTOR, WATER QUALITY CONTROL DIVISION Ronald G. Schuyler, P.E.
