' August 1943 City of Greeley purchases first land for airport site. October 1943 Contract awarded for the construction of three runways 300 X 2700 feet. Also a large hangar was constructed out of steel and concrete blocks. Runway lighting, wind cone, and rotating beacon installed. _ August 1946 City applied for Federal Aid for runway ;improvements and " land acquisition. Sept. 1948 City purchased first ten unit metal tee-hangar from Armco for $17,000.00 1948-49 Construction of private hangars started. Jan. 1949 City applies for Federal Aid for acquisition of additional land for aiport. Jan. 1949 City engineer and Attorney summarize land acquisition for airport. Total acres 267.33; $88,500.00. • Jan. 1949 First airport master plan for the Greeley Municipal Airport approved by CAA Jan. 1955 Manual of operation for the airport adopted. Oct. 1957 City black tops apron area around large hagar, and the sides of the metal tee-hangars. Dec. i95S Eight unit hail shed almost completed. Jan. 1959 Application for Federal Aid for construction, improving and paving the WS.d/ESE runway and for paving 09.27. July 1962 Board of Directors established for planning and operation of airport at the pleasure of the City Council . 1063 Airport responsibility assured by City and County as a joint venture. Sur::-cary Report -2 • April 1963 New ten unit Tee Hangar constructed, board rejected the bids for a three unit hangar capable of handling light twin engine aircraft. . April 1964 Bids let for the construction of the new terminal building. May 1964 Board began planning for paving the taxiway for 09-27. August 1964 Terminal building completed. Nov. 1964 Board implemented plans .for gas tanks at the terminal building. Sept. 1966 Planning began for the new runway and airport lighting system. Feb. 1968 Board began discussions on obtaining professional aid in obtaining data for airport long range planning. ' March 1969 Board in detailed investigation for acquiring control tower, also considered possibility of a portable tower. Feasibility was found to be doubtful at this time. April 1969 . New runway and airport lighting project completed and paid for. May 1969 Discussions by Board as to the possibility of funds from City and County for the necessities for 09-27 runway extension. July 1969 Trans-Central Airlines requested permission to establish and operate non-scheduled airline service to Greeley. Feb. 1970 Mayor Perchlik presented a long range engineering study on the growth needs of th3 airport and related zoning problems attendent to it. Varch 1970 Mr. Harry Dallas , FAA Regional Planner for airports, discussed growth and zoning problems for airports--he also explained and defined the airport in terms of. utility for this size community. He advised most strongly the necessity. of r'eeting the zoning requirements without delay. April 1970 County planner explained the initial phases and problems of zoning in general . He recommended and asked for a conservation type of zoning around the airport. Summary Report - 3 • • July 1970 County planner reports airport is being included in the County Cc.r.nrehensive Plan. Requested cooperation of the Board for information needed in study. Sept. 1970 Board begins serious consideration of plan to option and purchase the land a:est of airport.
