Approve Regulating, Warning, and Guiding Traffic During Extension of Temporary
Closure of County Road 72 Between County Roads 33 and 35 for Approximately an
Additional Three (3) Weeks, for Unanticipated Delays Due to Additional Sub -Grade
Road Preparation Equipment and Materials, and Property Owner Accommodations
Whereas, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
Whereas, pursuant to C.R.S. §42-4-106(6)(a), "...local authorities, with their respective
jurisdiction may, for the purpose of road construction and maintenance, temporarily close
to through traffic or to all vehicular traffic any highway or portion thereof for a period not
to exceed a specified number of work days for project completion and shall, in conjunction
with any such road closure establish appropriate detours or provide for an alternative
routing of the traffic affected...", and
Whereas, on the 30th day of June, 2025, pursuant to said Statute and upon the basis of
traffic and personnel investigations, the Board determined that conditions existed which
made it necessary to temporarily close County Road 72, between County Roads 33
and 35, to through traffic and to regulate, warn and guide vehicular traffic by posting signs
thereon, with said closure being effective July 14, 2025, for approximately six (6) weeks
for storm water improvements, roadway construction, and paving, and
Whereas, on the 20th day of August, 2025, pursuant to said Statute and upon the basis
of traffic and personnel investigations, the Board has determined that conditions exist
which make it necessary to extend said temporary closure of County Road 72, between
County Roads 33 and 35, with said extended closure being effective August 22, 2025, for
approximately an additional three (3) weeks through September 12, 2025, for
unanticipated delays due to additional sub -grade road preparation equipment and
materials, and property owner accommodations, and further, that standard official traffic
control devices shall be erected at said closure giving notice of the restrictions.
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, deems it necessary to regulate, warn, and guide vehicular traffic on County
Roads and any intersections thereof, and it hereby authorizes and orders the posting of
such traffic control devices as shall be reasonably necessary to regulate, warn, and/or
guide traffic thereon for the safety of the general public and that said traffic control devices
shall conform to the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Be it further resolved that the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, does declare and establish that County Road 72, between County Roads 33
and 35, be, and hereby is, extended, with said extended closure being effective
August 22, 2025, for approximately an additional three (3) weeks through September 12,
2025, for unanticipated delays due to additional sub -grade road preparation equipment
and materials, and property owner accommodations, and further, that standard official
traffic control devices shall be erected at said closure giving notice of the restrictions.
The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, approved the above
and foregoing Resolution, on motion duly made and seconded, by the following vote on
the 20th day of August, A.D., 2025:

SUBJECT: BOCC Agenda Item
Connell Resources, on behalf of Weld County Public Works, is requesting to extend the closure of
CR 72 between CR 33 and CR 35 from original end date of 8/22/2025 through 9/12/2025 for storm
water improvements, road construction and paving. Delays in completion were due to issues arising
during the road subgrade prep which required additional equipment and materials, and needing to make
additional accommodations for property owners.
Original closure dates: 7/14/2025 through 8/22/2025
