Dear Mr. Thompson,
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners are pleased to express support for the
development of a Region 2 Economic Development District (EDD) as designated by the U.S.
Economic Development Administration. The partnership of Weld and Larimer Counties into a
unified entity would provide several benefits across multiple sectors including infrastructure,
transportation, housing, workforce, and economic growth.
The proposed EDD would include Weld and Larimer Counties, regions known for their shared
economic strengths and collaborative efforts. We understand the commitment that would be
expected in this partnership and have had the opportunity to witness the effective working
relationship between the two counties through the Northern Colorado Regional Economic
Development Initiative (NoCo REDI) and successful preparation of a Comprehensive Economic
Development Strategy (CEDS). This demonstrates the region's ability to work together
consistently as required of an EDD.
In addition to strengthening the region's collaborative relationship, designation as an EDD will
facilitate regular oversight and updating of the region's CEDS. The EDD will lead implementation
of the CEDS, helping Northern Colorado secure future funding and make the most of those
resources. Weld County is proud to be a part of this important initiative and is committed to
supporting the EDD's goals and programs. We believe the ongoing collaboration will continue to
generate significant economic benefits and improve the quality of life for all residents in our
region.
