HomeMy WebLinkAbout20251116.tiffCOUNTY, CO April 15, 2025 The Honorable Lauren Boebert United States House of Representatives 4th Congressional District of Colorado Washington, D.C. 20515 Dear Congresswoman Boebert: OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (970) 400-4200 1150 O St., P.O. Box 758 Greeley, CO 80632 On behalf of the Weld County Board of Commissioners, we are pleased to express our strong support for the Town of New Raymer's Fiscal Year 2026 House Appropriations Request in the amount of $1,375,000 for critical water infrastructure improvements. New Raymer, a small yet strategically vital community in northeastern Weld County, plays an outsized role in both local emergency services and national defense efforts. Although home to only 100 residents, the Town's seven -bay Fire Station and Emergency Response staging facility serves an expansive 1,100 square -mile area, extending mutual aid across multiple counties and even into neighboring states. Its proximity to a major launch facility supporting the 90th Missile Wing Minuteman Missile System —soon to be modernized under the Sentinel Missile Project —further underscores its national strategic significance. Unfortunately, New Raymer's original water system, installed in 1967, has exceeded its useful life and is critically undersized. The current 24,000 -gallon capacity is insufficient for both daily needs and emergency fire suppression, especially considering increased wildfire risks, rising transportation of hazardous materials, and the upcoming demands associated with the Sentinel Missile Project. Despite diligent maintenance by the Town, the water system struggles to meet safe drinking standards and cannot support the emergency service levels necessary to protect this region and its vital national assets. The requested funding will enable the installation of a new 100,000 -gallon water storage tank, a modern water treatment facility, and an updated distribution system including a dedicated four - inch fire suppression line to the fire station with a hydrant. These improvements will not only ensure the community's health, safety, and resilience for decades to come, but also contribute to reduced insurance premiums, providing tangible economic relief to many residents living on fixed incomes. The Weld County Board of Commissioners firmly believes that this project is in the best interest of both our constituents and our nation's security infrastructure. We respecffully urge full and favorable consideration of this request, and we sincerely appreciate your leadership in advocating for rural Colorado communities like New Raymer. Thank you for your attention and consideration of this important matter. Sincerely, `OV.i,t4 Perry L.'Buck Chair, Weld County Board of Commissioners CoMNun'ico.+:0n3 y /28/25 2025-1116 Hello
