PASS -AROUND REVIEW
PASS -AROUND TITLE: 2026 County Holidays
DEPARTMENT: Clerk to the Board
PERSON REQUESTING: Esther Gesick
DATE: 8/27/2025
Brief description of the problem/issue:
Attached is the proposed schedule of holidays for calendar year 2026, as well as the rules for choosing the
appropriate days.
What options exist for the Board? Utilize the floating holiday (Colorado Day) in conjunction with January 1st;
OR select alternate date.
Consequences: Using the floating holiday on Friday, January 2, 2026, in conjunction with Thursday,
January 1st, does create two 3 -day weeks in a row; however, it also affords staff a 4 -day weekend
consistent with generally anticipated public closures, including employees who may have kids home on
winter break.
Impacts: It is at the Board's discretion to select another holiday option.
Costs (Current Fiscal Year / Ongoing or Subsequent Fiscal Years): Budgeted staffing wages.
Recommendation: Direct Clerk to list Draft Resolution reflecting the Floating Holiday (Colorado Day) in
conjunction with January 1, 2026 (New Year's Day).
