Re: Letter of commitment in support of a collaboration to retain County operations and services in downtown
Greeley
Dear Honorable Commissioner Buck and the Weld County Board of Commissioners:
In recognition of the unique opportunity presented by Weld County, the City of Greeley, and Greeley -Evans
School District 6 simultaneously evaluating their future facility needs; and as major employers and landowners
in downtown Greeley, the City would like to express support for retaining Weld County's justice center and
related services in downtown. Working in collaboration with the County, the School District, and Richmark
Properties, we believe there is a comprehensive approach to addressing each of our new facility needs, while
also attracting new private investment, enhancing services to our constituents, and contributing to the
economic health of the greater Greeley community.
As one of the entities contemplating new facilities, we are acutely aware of the need to be fiscally responsible,
while providing efficient and effective services to our residents. Toward that end we see an opportunity for
joint funding of a downtown parking garage that would support the judicial center and comprehensive parking
needs for downtown. To realize this opportunity the City is willing to commit $10 million towards shared
garage construction.
We look forward to collaborating with the County, School District, and Richmark to both address individual
facility needs, but also in creating an integrated campus of public and private facilities in downtown Greeley.
Just as the County courthouse has served residents for over a century, we are committed to developing and
implementing a plan that will continue to meet the community's needs for the next 100 years.
