HomeMy WebLinkAbout20251127.tiffPROCLAMATION WINDSOR WIZARDS DAY APRIL 28, 2025 WHEREAS, the Windsor Wizards boys basketball team competed in the 2025 CHSAA Class 5A state championship game against the Green Mountain Rams on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Denver Coliseum; and WHEREAS, in a back -and -forth game, teamwork, determination and talent prevailed, leading to a 60-49 Wizard's victory and the program's first state title in over a century; and WHEREAS, strong team defense held Green Mountain star, Simon Lunsford, to only five points, while Windsor junior Madden Smiley and senior John Backhaus collectively scored 43 to bring home state championship hardware; and WHEREAS, throughout the season, the Wizards learned about the program's last state championship team in 1924 and worked to instill some of those same characteristics and team rules throughout the year, even wearing retro warmup shirts before games; and WHEREAS, coach Jon Rakiecki's expertise and guidance pushed this year's team to achieve championship glory, but we know the success reflects a deeper commitment made possible through hard work and continued support from teammates, parents, and the Windsor community; and WHEREAS, just as this historic season is a point of pride for Windsor, know that it's an equally proud moment for Weld County to see our young people succeed. We as a board would like to extend our sincerest congratulations. Throughout future endeavors, we encourage team members to remember the lessons and principles that led to their success in addition to reliving this thrilling moment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that the 28th day of April 2025, be known as Windsor Wizards Day to commemorate a championship season.
