Box758 Greeley, CO 80631 Commissioner Maxey, Attached is a letter I (Mark Boyter) wrote to Weld County Assessor, Brenda Dones. I shared with Assessor Dones my support for local small farmers and their legitimate agricultural (ag) businesses. Two of these legacy ag businesses have expressed concern to me about the possibility of losing their Agricultural Tax Exemptions as their properties could be redesignated residential. Mr. Maxey, we would like to meet with you and the other Commissioners and discuss some ideas we have to promote our valued small ag businesses along with residential and commercial interests in Weld County. Additionally, my wife and I have been brainstorming how to help the leaders of Weld County define our county culture. In essence, who we areas Weld County residents; as a "people group." As well as how to answer the question of how to embrace our rural, natural, farming heritage while establishing a modern and vibrant economic community. We are quite excited over our ideas and see a synergism working to create an eco-friendly, holistic environment for everyone in our county. Should you like to hear our ideas please contact us at the email address or phone number below. We believe it would worth you time. Finally, allow us to thank you for the service you perform for the citizens and communities of Weld County. We understand that the position of county commissioner is a thankless job. However, know that many of your fellow citizens recognize and appreciate your contributions. Highest Regards, Mark and Sub Boyter bs.tdaroobCutplatonmail.com 208-860-7442 e276 Mark James Boyter 236 Habitat Circle Windsor, CO 80550 24 February 2025 Brenda Doses Weld County Assessor 1400 N. 17,r' Avenue Greeley, CO 80631 Ms. Cones, I am writing on behalf of athe small family -owned farms in Weld County. Specifically, My understanding is that Weld County is considering removing the Agricultural Tax Exemptions from some of these legitimate agricultural businesses to reclassify them as Residential Properties. This will place many of the small farm businesses in severe economic distress. Specifically I am writing to support the 35 year old small agricultural (ag) business of Lori Staley. at 8476 County Road 62, Windsor, CO 80550, Ms. Staley has been supplying my family with farm fresh, free range, toxin free and GMO-tree chicken eggs for the last year and a half. Ms Staley's eggs have become a critical source of clean protein for me as I navigate a serious chronic illness. Recently I was exposed to highly toxic water with numerous chemicals that tested positive for fatal levels of poisonous chemicals and fiberglass shards. The water came from a poorly manufactured potable water tank on a boat. Trying to eliminate the toxins my body went into Herxheimer reaction to dump the poisons. I must avoid additional toxin intake from processed foods, foods treated with pesticides, etc. Most of the food we can buy in a food store is of unknown origin and is of questionable purity. The eggs and vegetables we purchase from the Staley farm are of known origin and are as organically pure as possible. The eggs from the Staley family farm are trot only my food. but my medicine as well. Lori and Paul Staley bought this 48 -acre farm around the year 1990. This 35 -year -old established ag business has been in continuous operation supplying food for the neighbors, farm machinery services for other local farms. habitat for wildlife and hay/corn stalks for larger farmers such as Loren and Martin Lind. Small ag businesses are a part of our community and the heritage of our beautiful county. I referenced Martin Lind in the last paragraph. Mr. Lind has done a superb job, I would even say grfistic job, of developing his residential communities around the farm theme. Small farms are who we are as a community in Weld County. Our farming past binds us as a people group. 35 years ago the leadership of Weld County understood that, and Weld County promoted small and large farmers alike with tax incentives to develop these ag businesses. You may have observed the explosive growth of the Make America Healthy Again movement. This populous movement is gaining momentum as Americans seek out natural farmers like Ms Staley in search of reliable, safe food sources. May I respectfully suggest that Weld County embrace it's past and support rather than impede these critical, locally owned farms. As the public flocks to these small businesses and farmers markets to buy untainted food, the county may find itself on the wrong side of public opinion. I suggest that we, the citizens of Weld County, carefully mad the tea leaves. However, I am a realist. I recognize that governments of all sizes require tax revenue to function. However, some things are more important than money; like sate water and clean food. A small increase in overall tax revenue is not worth the cost. Our identity as a community is more important than anything else, as Mr Lind has so dramatically shown us. Respectffi'fly 77/4// Mark Jamey Doyter 208-860-7442 Hello
