We sent you a copy of our letter of May 31, 1972 to Mr. James.
-i M. Ingles regarding the construction of the Weld-Archer 230 KV
transmission line and the complaints of landowners along the
WELD COUNTY right-of-way. In a letter of reply dated June 5, 1972 by Mr.
FARM BUREAU Ingles there are many inaccurate statements and no evidence of
any intention to change any of their present policies. Some
of the statements in the letter (a copy attached) that are false
ant
1. Frank Baiamonte Jr. does not live on his land in Section
WELD COUNTY 32, R. 66W, T. 8N. His residence is on the property."
"'LIVESTOCK ASSOCIATION
2. His reference to a staked tower over an irrigation tile
line is different than the case that was originally brought
WELD COUNTY to our attention. This would seem to prove our point that
TAXPAYERS' ASSOCIATION no tenant or landowner is contacted about construction.
3. The irrigation ditch on Nets A. 6. Catherine Benson property
Section 8, R. 66W, T. 7N, has not been replaced as of
June 26, 1472. His irrigation was impel;ed at the be-

ginning of the irrigation season and only after our
'ili
t _ I complaint and the one made by the North Weld Chamber of
; - Commerce was Mr. Benson contacted.
4. The statement in the last paragraph that if a landowner
is in residence he has been and will be contacted to ex-
plain our schedule and work with the owner to the greatest
possible extent is in our experience with contacts from
Highway 14 on North completely false. Not all landowners
have been contacted by our organization so it is possible
some were, however, in all cases we have investigated, the
ht., >> ,_-.. complaint has had to be made to the Bureau before an

the time of that payment should be in writing before any damage

to settle, is akin to the old adage of locking the bars door'after the . :Y x , ,.
horse is stolen. If their is no other way to change this we would urge, 'u` 'i.,
that Congressional action be taken to require it. We also would urge k`
4 an investigation into the bureau's affairs. If the "top" is being told
by the field people the facts as written by Mr. Ingles than a big "shake
c,, ' up" should take place. Or if this is s typical bureau snow fob the
s,. "shake up"_should be at the "top".
At the Port Collins hearing for the Aultwanyden line the Invironmental
statement lent on at great length about running lines behind hills to
hide thee in the mountains, changing from one type pole to soother to
• fA camouflage them in scenic areas, construction by helicopter to net harm
5 the terrain, etc., but did not even include any statement about the
lit
environmental impact on agricultural land.
;: Vs strongly urge that this be dons and by the Soil Gonspatiop Galva
. who have the technical knowledge to mete such a survey. J. Norman rweet r,
' T a member of the board of directors testified to this effect"at the
hearing for the Weld County Agriculutral Council. It wooid seem to f *jot
x us that millions are spent for purely scenic considerations led then •^ ,
not one penny to keep agricultural lands in production and to wake
,lust compensations other them for land to landowners. We feel this
lit,,-'1- surely is not National Policy oa that of the hereon of lsatioo.., w " e
