honor and pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our country; and

on May 30, 1868, when the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington
Cemetery were strewn with flowers and miniature flags — a practice that remains to
this day; and

with a formal Memorial Day ceremony for more than 100 years, in which American
flags are placed at more than 2,000 veterans' graves; and

Remembrance — a one minute period at 3 p.m. to pause, wherever you are, to join in
a powerful, unified moment of gratitude for those who died in service to the United
States.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Weld County Commissioners
observes Monday, May 26, 2025, as Memorial Day. We urge Weld County residents to
honor this day with purpose, reflection and action to ensure that the memory of our
fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending our freedoms lives on.
