RE: Town of Johnstown's Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Application
Dear Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Review Committee,
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners is in support of the Town of Johnstown's
application for Action Plan funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe
Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program. In FY23, Weld County received SS4A
funding to develop a countywide Safety Action Plan. However, this effort does not include
the Town of Johnstown, whose municipal boundaries fall outside the scope of the project.
As such, we support the Town's efforts to secure its own Action Plan funding to address
transportation safety needs within its jurisdiction.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation's 2022 Problem Identification
Report, Weld County ranks second highest in the state for traffic fatalities. As we work to
eliminate roadway fatalities within the county, we support municipalities making efforts to
also improve roadway safety within their communities and to eliminate roadway fatalities.
Other Weld County communities who have received SS4A funding in previous grant cycles
include the City of Greeley (FY22), the Town of Windsor (FY23), the Town of Kersey (FY24)
and the Town of Nunn (FY24). It is our hope that the Town of Johnstown will also be
awarded funding through this program so that this movement toward roadway safety
continues and grows throughout the county.
Sincerely,
22te-e,X
