MINUTES WELD COUNTY COUNCIL June 24, 2024 The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the Weld County Home Rule Charter at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Weld County Administration Building, 1150 0 Street, Greeley, CO. ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by President Nancy Teksten. Councilmembers Elijah Hatch, Cindy Beemer, James Welch and Trent Leisy were present, constituting a quorum of members. Also present was Council Secretary Linda Kane. APPROVAL OF AGENDA : Councilmember Beemer made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Councilmember Welch and carried. APPROVAL OF DOCUMENTATION: Approval of May Minutes Councilmember Leisy made a motion to approve the May minutes, seconded by Councilmember Beemer, and the motion carried. REVIEW PROGRAM: Hannah Swanbom, Director of Weld County Extension Program Ms. Swanbom and her associate director, County Fair Coordinator, Mikayla Gable, discussed challenges faced by their department. A big challenge for the department is necessary facilities updates. They are running out of space and storage as there isn't adequate space for meetings or trainings. Their exhibition building is in bad shape, along with the 4H building and livestock barn. The department is growing, but the poor conditions of their buildings is making it difficult. Ms. Gable said she has 1,400 entries for the 2024 fair, but the lack of expansion space is another challenge. Ms. Swanbom said the fair is a highlight every year. They've expanded food and nutrition programs and the 4H program is the largest in the state with more than 1,000 participants and 200 -plus volunteers. Please see Addendum 1. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. OLD BUSINESS: There was no old business. NEW BUSINESS: Web site discussion regarding maintenance and retainment Ms. Beemer said it makes sense to archive minutes 2-3 years and have longer periods for agendas. 2025-0142 Council members decided to find out how commissioners archive files and possibly follow their lead. Councilmember Beemer made a motion to table the issue until the July meeting, seconded by Councilmember Welch, and the motion carried. Coordinator Reports/Councilman Reports Councilmember Beemer reminded Council that salaries will be discussed in August. Bills Councilmember Leisy made a motion to approve bills, it was seconded by Councilmember Welch and carried.
