The purpose of this MOU with the COSPH is to formalize a long-standing affiliation. Unlike other MOUs that allow us to provide internships for public health nurses or students enrolled in environmental or public health degree programs, this MOU provides significant reciprocal benefit to the department. Under the agreement, COSPH can provide training and research that WCDPHE staff would otherwise have to perform or pay for. The agreement will also provide the typical intern opportunities for COSPH students which serves our community by developing future generations of well-rounded public health professionals. The COSPH partnership will encompass access to all three affiliated campuses which include CU Anschutz, University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado state University. This partnership with WCDPHE would make the fourth such agreement in Colorado. Activities will be conducted by current staff; no additional FTE is being requested. What options exist for the Board? With the approval of the Board, this will expand and improve upon our current relationship with the Colorado School of Public Health, which includes the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado state University, and CU Anschutz. Consequences: If the Board declines approving this MOU, the department will not seek to enhance the partnerships with COSPH. Impacts: Benefits to the department will include increased recruitment of future public health practitioners, professional growth and development opportunities for staff, and the ability to inform public health research for the benefit of our community. Costs (Current Fiscal Year / Ongoing or Subsequent Fiscal Years): There is no increase to the department budget and no increase to County cost associated with this request. Recommendation: I recommend the Board approve placement of this MOU with the Colorado School of Public Health on a future Board agenda for formal consideration. 2024-1690 /Z4 Support Recommendation Schedule Place on BOCC Agenda Work Session Other/CommeNits: Perry L.
