RE: Letter of Support for CR 7 Paving Project — Mead to Berthoud
Dear Representative Caraveo,
I am writing in support of the Town of Mead's proposal to Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo's Community
Project appropriations program to request funding for the CR 7 Paving Project — Mead to Berthoud. This
project, which will bolster existing infrastructure to ensure safer passage for the traveling public, provides
a critical bypass route during the lengthy 5 -mile reconstruction of the adjacent, parallel Interstate 25 (1-25)
highway.
County Road 7, between CR 38 and Ball Aerospace Drive, is a 2 -mile stretch of gravel road that connects
to paved roadway on both ends. This roadway is often used as a bypass to I-25 during times of heavy
congestion. The resulting high -traffic volumes and heavy truck traffic causes frequent and significant
maintenance issues that often require daily grading to maintain a safe and passable traveling condition.
These maintenance and safety concerns pose a tremendous burden to small-town operations and police
staff. These concerns will be exponentially magnified during I-25 reconstruction activities as residents and
commuters attempt to find ways around the construction. Because there are no other reasonable alternative
routes, as CR 7 is the closest parallel roadway to 1-25, paving this section of roadway will eliminate current
safety concerns for the traveling public and improve the overall regional transportation network. Also, by
relieving some of the traffic congestion on interstate 25 during construction, this project will enhance the
safety of motorists and construction personnel on the interstate.
I strongly support this funding request that focuses on providing a critical transportation link, not just for
the Town of Mead, but for regional traffic traveling the I-25 corridor and searching for a bypass route during
construction. I am excited about the benefits this project wilt provide locally and regionally and look
forward to the improved safety and mobility of the traveling public.
Sincerely,
Q
