Subject: Objection letter to proposed solar facility on County Road 94 and Highway 85

Dear Molly,
This letter is to formally file my objection to the Solar Energy Facility in the Agricultural Zone
District south of and adjacent to CR 94, east of and adjacent to Highway 85.
We own two parcels within 500 feet of the proposed facility. This facility would have a
n egative impact on this area. The land impact of large-scale facilities is only beginning to be
u nderstood. Serious waterway pollution, potential noise pollution from the equipment (not
the panels themselves) and fire risk where the PV system itself was considered the cause or
probable cause make the claim that these facilities should be 1.2 - .5 miles from residences.
In addition to the above, it is proven that property values decrease when solar facilities are
present. As you get closer to these facilities there can be as much as a 7% deprecation in
property values.
Health issues are also of great concern. Solar power facilities produce electromagnetic
radiation that can cause vision problems and headaches.
There is no getting around it. These facilities are not aesthetically pleasing. Surrounding the
area with a chain link fence is ugly and will serve as a tumbleweed catcher. The fence will also
n egatively affect the antelope herd that has been here for decades. I also have concerns
about prairie dog mitigation in this area. There is a large prairie dog population in this area,
and I have huge concerns about my livestock being affected when these rodents are left to get
out of control.
If the land is zoned as agricultural, shouldn't the property owner of the potential solar facility
have to get it re -zoned as industrial?
I don't believe that you can justify or ignore the negative health, ecological and financial
impact that this will have on so many property owners in order to benefit one.
I also wanted to call out that we did not receive notice of this facility's latest proposal and
objection period even though our properties are directly adjacent to the proposed facility.
Our concerned neighbors notified us.
Regards,
Jodi

Dear Weld County Planning Services:
This letter is to express my objection to the proposed solar panel project, case #USR24-0018,
that is intended to be built across the road from my residence/property. I have owned and lived
on this property for 8 years now. It took over a year to find this acreage, my own piece of
open, rural Colorado. A large amount of my hard-earned savings was used to acquire my
home and land. This proposed solar panel project is positioned right at 500 feet from my front
steps, and my house directly faces the proposed field. Every time my family sits at our
kitchen table, on our front porch, and even in our living room, we will look out the window
and see nothing but solar panels.
I have many questions and concerns regarding any solar panel fields in the area. Will it affect
groundwater quality over time? Anytime a hailstorm hits these panels will they shatter and
drop glass and plastic fragments on to the ground? We receive hail multiple times a year and
have experienced at least 2 very damaging hailstones in the last 8 years. My water source is a
well, as is the same for most of the households in this area, for household use and to water our
various pets and farm animals. These may be considered "safe" panels, but what if there are
traces of lead, selenium, copper, PFAS. What will we find out in 10, 20, or even 30 years
about the effects on our groundwater or our environment of the solar panels that we consider
safe today. Additionally, the panels will obstruct natural rainfall to the ground. When
constructing my buildings a fee was required per square footage of ground that was obstructed
from rainfall. Do the solar panel fields also have to cover some sort of obstruction fee? There
is research that suggests the ambient air temperatures around large solar fields will increase
because of the energy absorption. Will that make the air temperature around my home hotter
than usual? I suspect this will further increase the traffic on our county road, our road does not
stay maintained and smooth now. What will the county do about this?
Another larger concern is the expected negative effect on my property value due to the
proposed solar panel project. If something forced me to move, I am looking at a loss of
equity. If a buyer is debating between two houses, a view of land and mountains would easily
be preferable over solar panels. I do not believe this is right.
Does the energy collected from these panels help this area, or does it get sent down the line to
a major city? The large Black Hollow reservoir project is not contributing to Weld County,
how do we know this one is. I believe there is a place for solar panels, but not on open
farmland. The land is wasted on these 30 plus year projects and reclamation of the land post
solar panel use has been mediocre at best. I suggest adding these solar panels over parking
lots and the roofs of every building in the city where people are pushing for solar and the
power is going to.
I did not want to write this letter; I do not agree with trying to stop someone else from doing as
they want with their land. But in this case, it is affecting my family and my home directly. I
feel it is necessary to voice my opinion. I prefer my 8 -month -old son not having to grow up
next to this industrial project that will benefit some city down the line. Many of us in this area
moved to the country to get away from cities and situations like this.
In closing, all I can ask is, if this was your situation, would you want to be living next to
something like this?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Derek Wessels
