HomeMy WebLinkAbout20240988.tiffRESOLUTION RE: EXPRESSION OF SUPPORT FOR FULLY FUNDING WELD COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND 19TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S 2024 REQUEST, IMMEDIATELY PER SHERIFF'S AND DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S REQUEST (CLERK'S NOTE: Pursuant to the Weld County Home Rule Charter, Article 3, Section 3-13, the concurrence of three of the members of the Board is required to approve a Resolution. The motion to approve the above and foregoing, "Resolution Re: Expression of Support for Fully Funding Weld County Sheriffs Office and 19th Judicial District Attorney's 2024 Request, Immediately per Sheriffs and District Attorney's Request," received only one affirmative vote of the five Commissioners present, and therefore, failed. The failure to obtain a majority vote to approve was a denial of the motion and of the Resolution.) WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board has previously expressed and continues to express its' support for the Weld County Sheriff's and 19th Judicial District Attorney's operations, and WHEREAS, the turn -over in the Weld County Sheriff's Office has reached critical levels regarding jail staffing and the 19th Judicial District Attorney provides critical support for law enforcement, and WHEREAS, providing law enforcement is one of the key roles of any local government responsibility and Weld County should continue to provide law enforcement services that residents need and expect, like making more deputies available throughout the county for regular patrols and for animal control services, and WHEREAS, Weld County just received 4.7 million dollars from backfill in property taxes related to Senate Bill, SB 22-238, which has been placed in the general fund, and WHEREAS, to that end, the Board should strive to meet the funding requirements that the Weld County Sheriff's Office has asked for and Weld County Commissioners should use any new funding sources in 2024 and 2025 first towards Weld County Sheriff's Office operational needs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the above and foregoing Resolution received only one (1) affirmative vote and therefore failed, and the effect of the failure to obtain a majority vote is a denial of the motion.
