NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH
SEPTEMBER 2024
WHEREAS, in a county as large as Weld, residents are susceptible to many different
emergencies. While many weather -related events come to mind, emergencies can also involve
power outages, being forced to shelter -in -place or evacuate. No matter the situation,
preparedness can help keep people safe and allow them to better protect themselves, their pets
and property; and
WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month, recognized every September, is a time for us all to
think about how we can be better prepared to stay safe before, during and after an emergency.
It could mean establishing or updating evacuation plans or emergency preparedness kits full of
items needed to stay safe and comfortable for up to 72 hours following an emergency or signing
up for CodeRED to for increased situational awareness; and
WHEREAS, preparedness can start with a thought: "if forced to evacuate or shelter -in -place,
would I have what I need to stay safe and comfortable? What items would I need?" No two
preparedness plans may look alike, and that's OK. The point is to prepare, and
WHEREAS, there are many resources available to help residents with emergency preparedness.

preparedness tips at www.weld.gov/go/pio. Additionally, follow the Weld County Facebook and X
platforms for reminders about the importance of preparedness; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that
September 2024 be known as National Preparedness Month. We encourage residents to take
time to plan and prepare for emergencies. Doing so can potentially be a life-saving act, and one
that keeps Weld County resilient in the face of uncertainty.
