RE: Town of Kersey's Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Application
Dear Mr. Teicher,
The Weld County Board of County Commissioners is in support of the Town of Kersey's application for
Action Plan funding through the US Department of Transportation's Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A)
grant program. During the previous grant cycle, Weld County was awarded funding to create a Safety
Action Plan. Although this Action Plan is for the county, the funding and Action Plan will only be for
county roads, not roads located within Weld County municipalities. Because this will not result in any data
or an Action Plan for municipalities, we are in support of the Town of Kersey applying for funding to create
their own Action Plan within their municipal boundaries.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation's 2022 Problem Identification Report, Weld
County ranks second highest in the state for traffic fatalities. As we work to eliminate roadway fatalities on
county roads, we support municipalities making efforts to also improve safety within their communities
and eliminate roadway fatalities. Other Weld County communities who have received SS4A funding in
previous grant cycles include the City of Greeley (FY22) and the Town of Windsor (FY23). It is our hope
that the Town of Kersey will also be awarded funding through this program so that this movement toward
roadway safety continues and grows throughout the county.
Sincerely,
Kevin D. Ross

RE: Town of Erie, CO, application to 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A)
NOFO DOT-OST-2024-01, Assistance Listing # 20.939
Dear Mr. Teicher,
The Town of Erie, CO, is submitting an application to the 2024 SS4A NOFO for development of a
comprehensive safety action plan. The Town is located in Weld County and Boulder County. Weld
County, CO (UEI MKKXT9U9MTV5) received SS4A funding of $400,000 in 2023 to develop a
comprehensive safety action plan. The Weld County plan is not yet complete; however, the plan will NOT
include the Boulder County side of Erie.
The Town of Erie is a suburban community on the north end of the Denver metro area. Erie has a population
of 30,038 (2020 Census) with an estimated population of 36,000 (2024 est.). The Town has seen significant
growth including increased traffic and crash rates.
The Town of Erie is in the process of updating its Transportation & Mobility Plan. In doing so, town staff
has mapped out the numerous crashes that have occurred in the town from 2016 to 2022. The Town has
experienced 1,053 crashes during that timeframe. Through a Safety Action Plan, the Town will investigate
further into the crash reports and develop a project priority list to address the high rate of crashes.
While Weld County will develop its own plan for the county, the County supports its municipalities' efforts
in developing their own safety action plan and keep Weld County a stakeholder in the development of the
Town of Erie's plan.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Teicher,
