ROOSEVELT ROUGHRIDERS DAY
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 2024
WHEREAS, the Roosevelt Roughriders girls basketball team competed in the Class 5A state
championship game against the Northfield Nighthawks on Saturday, March 9th, at the
Denver Coliseum; and
WHEREAS, Roosevelt got off to a hot start, leading by 18 in the first half. The Roughriders
were tested by many comeback attempts but managed to make adjustments when
necessary to claim a 69-63 victory and earn their second consecutive state championship;
and
WHEREAS, the resolve shown during the game was evident throughout a season that saw
Roosevelt record an impressive 26-2 record and only lose one league game. Many Roosevelt
players were named to the All -State team by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
Sophomore power forward Kyla Hollier was named SA Player of the Year; junior shooting
guard Ryanne Bahnsen-Price was named first team all -state and senior point guard Kinsey
Trujillo was named second team all -state; and
WHEREAS, the athletic achievements of a championship season should fill players,
coaches, parents and Roosevelt High School with pride. However, that should not be the
only takeaway. There were friendships strengthened and bonds formed that will last long
beyond this season. The memory of being a champion will also remain, and we encourage
players to let that memory serve as motivation when striving toward other goals in life; and
WHEREAS, just as another state championship adds to the legacy of athletics at Roosevelt
High School, know it also fills us as a board with pride. We enjoy seeing our young people
succeed, and today we celebrate with this proclamation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners
that the 24. day of April 2024, be known as Roosevelt Roughriders Day. Congratulations to
players, coaches, parents and Roosevelt High School on a championship season.
