FOSTER CARE MONTH
MAY 2024
WHEREAS, we recognize and appreciate our dedicated Weld County foster and kinship
caregivers, child welfare professionals and faith -based and community organizations, who
are building stronger communities and improving the lives of children, youth and families by
tirelessly providing advocacy, nurturing and unwavering care for at -risk children, youth, and
families, and
WHEREAS, we acknowledge, with immense gratitude, the tremendous sacrifices made by
Weld County foster and kinship families as they open their hearts and homes to
approximately 250 children and youth currently in foster and kinship care, especially the
families who provide care for children and teens with complex medical and challenging
psychological and behavioral needs; and
WHEREAS, Weld County Child Welfare is recruiting both standard and therapeutic foster
families to help ensure every child and youth in Weld County can be cared for within their
own community helping to keep more youth with complex needs in a family setting rather
than in a residential facility. Our vision is to provide all Weld County children, youth, and
families with a community of safe and stable families and individuals where the basic needs
of all are met with respect and dignity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Weld County Commissioners
that May 2024 be known as Foster Care Month in Weld County. We call upon the citizens of
Weld County to observe this month by taking time to encourage and support children and
youth in foster and kinship care, and to recognize the commitment of those who touch their
lives, especially honoring and celebrating foster and kinship parents and our dedicated child
welfare professionals.
