THE "NOXIOUS WEED CONTROL STEERING COMMITTEE"
is composed of: Henry Zeiler, H. F. Lind, Jake Altergot, Henry Brunner, Casey
Greenwald, John Heckman, Bill Scheid, Ed Honstein, Kenneth Nelson, Ruben Hergert,
Harold Felte, Leonard Lindblad, Ruben Kerbs, Charles Lengel, Harold Young and
G. L. James. After consulting with leading farmers, the County Commissioners,
Colorado State University technicians, the Colorado Department of Agriculture,
Agricultural Agency representatives and many others have come up with the following
plan:
1. Organize districts under House Bill No. 336 passed by the Colorado Legis—
lature in 1959 and amended in 1961.
2. These districts to remain in operation for five years.
3. Prevent the formation of seed and use every means known today to control all
Canada Thistle and Bindweed within the boundaries of such districts.
4. At the end of five years if the program is successful expand it to eventually
include the whole county.
What advantage does this plan offer?
If a Weed Control district is voted into operation by the landowners then All
lands lying within the boundaries of the district must he treated in accordance
with the regulations as established. This includes all railroad, highway and
ditch company rights -of -way, city property, land being held for sub -divisions,
low value waste land, reservoir sites, deeded land; in short all land regardless
of ownership.
The next letter will outline the plans for a proposed weed control district in
your community together with the procedure for establishing it and a proposed set
of regulations to control CANADA THISTLE AND BINDWEED.
