HomeMy WebLinkAbout20242311.tiffPROCLAMATION NATIONAL FOOD SAFETY EDUCATION MONTH SEPTEMBER 2024 WHEREAS, Weld County is home to 1,342 active retail food establishments, including restaurants, school kitchens, convenience stores, grocery stores, and mobile units, all of which contribute to the vibrancy and well-being of our county; and WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment Food Safety Program is dedicated to safeguarding the health of our county by helping ensure food consumed in our county is safe and responsibly prepared; and WHEREAS, the department licenses approximately 270 temporary event and special event vendors each year, while assisting in the coordination of approximately 120 temporary events, monitoring that food safety standards are upheld even in dynamic environments; and WHEREAS, the department conducts approximately 2,500 inspections annually of all retail food establishments and food booths at events, exemplifying its commitment to rigorous oversight and the prevention of foodborne illnesses; and WHEREAS, the department is enrolled in the FDA Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Standards, which underscores its dedication to aligning with national best practices in food safety regulation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that September be known as National Food Safety Education Month in Weld County, and encourage all residents, food service professionals, and public health advocates to join us in promoting food safety practices that will protect the health and well-being of our community.
