HomeMy WebLinkAbout20241286.tiffPROCLAMATION MEMORIAL DAY MAY 27, 2024 WHEREAS, on Memorial Day, the Board of Weld County Commissioners wishes to join the citizens of Weld County in honoring our Gold Star Families and the enormous debt of gratitude owed to our veterans who answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our great Nation; and WHEREAS, Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery and to this day still serves as a day to honor and remember members of our Armed Forces who gave their lives; and WHEREAS, Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance to honor the memory of our fallen service members and ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten; and WHEREAS, The National Moment of Remembrance encourages every American to take a moment wherever they may be at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Weld County Commissioners that Monday, May 27, 2024, be known as Memorial Day. We ask that Weld County residents come together to express their gratitude and pay tribute to those fallen heroes and their surviving families. 2024-1286 5/ZZ Hello
