Dear Mr. Anderson:
Mr. Wade Gaddis, Mayor-Pro-Tem of the City of
Longmont received a letter from the Weld County Health
Department demanding that the City close its Sanitary -
land fill dump by September 1, 1969.
The dump is operated by the City under Weld County
Certificate of Designation Solid Waste Disposal Site issued
June 26, 1968 and sign ed by Harold W. Anderson, Chairman,
Board of County Commissioners.
The City now holds a lease on the dump site, under
option of purchase. In reliance on the existing permit the
City has purchased an additional 80 acres adjacent to the
Site which will accommodate the City for many years after
the original site has been filled.
The dump operation has been commended by the Colorado
Health Department as being one of the two best dumps in the
State. That Department has frequently brought representatives
of other Municipalities to view and inspect the Longmont dump
as a model of what others should do.

In view of this record and the further fact that
the City has complied with Chapter 368, Session Laws
of 1967, I respectfully request your Board to reconsider
its action as summarized by the Health Department letter
received. If you desire to meet with our City Manager,
Public Works Director and myself, I will arrange a meeting
fat your convenience, except that Mr. Klarich will be out
of the State the last two weeks of August and I shall be
gone the last week of August. Perhaps a discussion between
myself and your County attorney would suffice at this time.
