SUBJECT: Cable Crossing

1. The 90th Communications Squadron has the prime responsibility for
maintaining the Minuteman Missile Hardened Intersite Cable System (HICS),
and is the focal point for coordination of all proposed cable crossings.
2. If you are planning any construction on or near our cable area, furnish
the 90 CONS, attention Cable Affairs Office, three copies of your construction
plans, and a request for consent to cross our cable easement. Request for
consent and construction plans must be received by the Cable Affairs Office
no later than 60 days prior to proposed construction date. Copies of your
request and plans Will be forwarded to the US Arny Corps of Engineers, Omaha,
Neb., and they will grant the license to cross our cable easement.
3. It is vitally essential that your firm and/or contractor, coordinate
closely with the Cable Affairs Office to ensure the integrity of the HICS.
I catmot over -emphasize the adverse effect that unauthorized cable damage
and/or cuts will have on our natinnal security.
b. Headquarters, Strategic Air Command has established the following mini-
mum requirements: optimum separation of HICS and buried utilities must be
36 inches, except in rock formation where it can be 12 inches. Costs of
making RIGS cable adjustments will be borne by the party and/or parties not
having the superior easement. Understanding of this by all parties concerned
will expedite future coordination and agreement to this in initial corres-
pondence is recommended.
5. In addition, request you advise the Cable Affairs Office telephone number,
area code 307, 775-2700, 48 hours in advance of actual excavation. This is
necessary to ensure scheduling of on -site USAF observers. Feel free to call
upon us for any additinna_l information desired.

This office has the prime responsibility through the Commander, 90TH STRA-
TEGIC MISSILE WING, F. E. Warren AFB, Wyoming, to maintain the cable system
and is the focal point for all proposed cable crossings by other parties.
If you are planning any construction in our cable area, please furnish three
copies of your construction plans. Also a letter requesting consent to cross
our cable easements required by this office from you. Letter and construc-
tion plans must be received 60 days prior to construction. A copy of your
request and one copy of your plans will be forwarded to the Corps of Engineers,
Omaha Branch, to furnish you with a license to cross the United States Air
Force cable easement.
It is a must that you or your contractor coordinate closely with this office,
to insure that the integrity of the cable network is maintained. I cannot
over emphasize the adverse effect cable cuts may have on the defense effort.
As soon as your plans are received, a study will be made to determine the
necessary cable adjustment required to clear your construction. Cost of mak-
ing any cable adjustments will be the responsibility of the party not having
the superior easement.
Request the construction agency advise this office of actual excavation in the
cable easement area !,8 hours in advance. This is necessary in order to sche-
dule on -site observers during actual excavation.
If any additional information is required, please do not hesitate to contact
this office, phone Area Code 307, 775-2700.
If at any time you should obtain information of construction which may effect
the Minuteman cable easement, please contact this office. Thank you for your
assistance in this matter.
