She continued off the end of the road onto what appears to be a cattle type trail but in all actuality end at a hugh ditch and pile of dirt . Her car was severely damaged, and she and her sister had minor injuries . They were blessed by God not to have been more seriously injured or even possibly killed. I firmly believe this accident could have been prevented if there was some sort of warning sign posted further South of the dead end and also if a lighted guard rail was installed at the end of the road. (Or even if 47th was allowed to be completed on through to the Arrowhead project) . I have only lived here for 3 months , and this is the third incident known to me of people going off the end of this road. Luckily for the other two, they were able to stop short of the ditch. Not so for this young lady. Furthermore, I believe something needs to be done immediately as the traffic on this road is increasing and will continue to do so as the housing development in this area continues to expand. Please accept my report of this as a true concern for the safety of others . We were all lucky this time. What about the next? Who will take responsibility for the loss of a life? GREELEY, COLORADO 80632 COLORADO April 4, 1996 Gary R. Koontz 4564 Kings Canyon Drive Greeley, CO 80634 Dear Mr. Koontz: • This letter is in response to your request for warning signs on 47th Avenue north of 49th Street. This portion of road was signed with a "not a through road" sign just north of 49th Street. In addition, a permanent Type III barricade at the end of the asphalt (to the north) was installed to warn traffic of the dead end. This portion of road was inspected on March 27, 1996. The "not a through road" sign was intact, but the Type III barricade was broken up and many pieces were missing. For the safety of the traveling public, the Weld County Public Works Department will install another Type III barricade in the very near future. The barricade will be approximately 5' X 4' with white boards showing fluorescent orange and white striping. The Board of Weld County Commissioners appreciates your concern and your letter.
