Dear Commissioner Hall:
By this communication, I will address a number of concerns regarding the Southern Weld
County—I-25 Corridor Master Drainage Plan. These concerns which have recently been
expressed to me are: 1) an answer to the Department of Local Affairs' request for CWCB cost-
share in the study; 2) a response to Weld County regarding CWCB participation in the project;
and 3) an acknowledgment of the Board's July 15, 1998 letter for funding considerations for the
project. I was hopeful that I could secure funding in the amount of$13,500.00 to assist with the
much needed Master Drainage Plan.
As discussed with your staff, the Board no longer has a fund program that can assist Colorado
communities with funding for floodplain information or master drainage studies. The limited
amount of funds available to the Board to assist with flood protection projects continues to be a
signficant and unresolved concern. Occasionally, however, the Board can provide funding for a
flood-related activity from excess funds allocated for other projects.
I did make a request to the Board at its January 27-28, 1999 meeting on behalf of Weld County
for the subject study in the amount of$13,500.00. The Board did not have sufficient funds as of
January 1999.
I understand that Weld County did receive supplemental funding from the Department of Local
Affairs and the project is progressing on schedule. I applaud DOLA for their action! Upon
completion of the study, I would appreciate receiving a copy of the final report.
On behalf of the Board, I apologize for any inconvenience that we might have caused the project.
