The open house will be held on Saturday, July 25, 1998, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Weld County Centennial Center First Floor Assembly Room, 915 10th Street, Greeley. Refreshments will be served. Citizens are welcome to attend the reception and learn more about the Council and its role in Weld County government. The following three Weld County Council seats are up for election in 1998's November election: one At-Large four-year term; one District I four-year term; and one District III four-year term. Weld County Council's President Judy Curtis (District I), Councilwoman Pam Malcom (At-Large) will not be seeking reelection. Councilman Ralph Campbell (District III) will be unable to seek reelection because of term-limits. The Weld County Council consists of five non-partisan elected members, one representing each district and two at-large members. The Weld County Council was created with the adoption of Weld County's Home Rule Charter. It is a distinctive organization offering citizens and employees of Weld County the opportunity to participate in their County government. Persons may present their concerns regarding County government to the Council as the Council is charged to review all aspects of County government and make reports to the people. In addition to reviewing county government the Council has four other functions described in the Weld County Home Rule Charter: 1) to set salaries of elected officials, 2) to fill vacancies on the Board of County Commissioners, 3) to suspend public officials charged with a crime, and to 4) review conflicts of interest within County government. Weld County residents who would like to serve on the Weld County Council may pick up petitions from July 16, 1998 at the Weld County Election Department, 1402 N. 17th Ave., Greeley, CO. Residents may also telephone the Election Department, 353- 3840 X 3070 to have a petition mailed. Petitions must be returned to the Election Department by September 4, 1998. The Weld County Council's office is open on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Council office may be reached by telephoning 356-4000 x 4780. The meeting will be at the Galeton Elementary School, 24750 Third Street, Galeton, CO. Ms. Frazer's presentation will outline the Planning Department's Community Meetings Program. She will be available for follow - up discussion regarding the recent Galeton Community Meeting that featured Weld County's Planning, Health, and Sheriffs Department personnel. There will be time for questions from the public. The County Council will also be considering its responsibility to set the salaries for Weld County's elected officials. The Council welcomes in put from the public regarding proposed salaries of elected County officials.
