Dear Commissioners:
The Milliken Town Board of Trustees has discussed your offer to undertake a joint project to improve WCR 21
between Broad Street and Green Street in the Town of Milliken (see attachment). The Town Board is pleased
with your willingness to work with us, and understands your expectations relative to our share of the cost and the
annexation.
The Board has asked that I request that the County also pay for a four foot wide asphalt shoulder in addition to
the twelve foot traffic lane which you offered. The Town desires to have this shoulder for emergency and parking
purposes because it will be used as a city street following the construction and annexation. If the County would
be willing to provide this additional pavement, the Town is prepared to proceed with the project.
Again, we appreciate your willingness to assist us with this project. Please contact me if you have additional
questions, or notify me if you are ready to prepare the written agreement which you mentioned.

• Since your letter dated April 15, 1995, there has been quite a bit of discussion betwe
en the Town of Milliken and
Weld County regarding a joint effort to improve WCR 21 between Broad Street and Green Street. At a recent
worksession between the Commissioners and our Public Works Staff, the project was discussed again.

The Public Works Department estimate the cost to pave 20' wide on the Town of Milliken's side and 12' wide on
the County's side is $43,200. The estimate does not include concrete curb and gutter. ;The cost of paving within
the Town;would be $25,900, and the cost of paving in the County would be $17,300.

• The Commissioners are willing to proceed with ajoint project in which the Town pays for the work within the Town
limits,l,and Weld County will pay for the work performed within the County. It is the Commissioner's preference
• that the Town contract the work and Weld County pay the Town its portion of approximately $17,300. Also, the
County would expect the Town to annex the newly constructed portion. •
If the Town wishes to proceed with the project, please have your staff contact Drew Schellinga, County Engineer,
at 35G�4000 Ext. 3750 regarding construction issues and preparation of a written agreement between the Town and
•the County.
