Madam Chair Harbert;
The purpose of this letter is to officially notify the Weld County Commissioners of the action
taken by the Board of Parks and Outdoor Recreation regarding the acceptance of the Hoekstra
gravel pit property east of Barbour Ponds State Park.
On March 20, 1998 the Parks Board officially accepted 154 acres of Weld County property as a
donation to Colorado State Parks. In the near future we will be working with your staff to draft
a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the details of the donation.
I am truly grateful that we can work together to further the outdoor recreation opportunities for
many visitors to this growing area. The property will make a outstanding addition to Barbour
Ponds State Park. I am pleased that we can make these progressive decisions now to take
advantage of the current construction in progress and important trail connection between the two
properties at the Saint Vrain River / Interstate 25 Bridge.
