The Colorado Department of Highways hereby requests approval of the Weld
County Planning Commission to open a gravel pit with the material being used in
the construction of the US ;34 By -Pass from the West end of the completed construction;
Westerly to the junction of present highway US #34.
Said pit located on property- owned by Ruth A. Geesen of Agate, :olorado;
lyinT, it the N.E.* of Sec. 19, T.SN., R.66W. in Weld County.
The proposed pit is in an agriculture zone at present; which, allows gravel
pits and is the closest material to the project that we have been able to obtain.
It is estimated that approximately 50,000 Cu. Yds. will be removed from the pit.
It is anticipated that the material will be removed sometime between July
1968 and the end of the year.
' though I have referred to the gravel deposit as a pit;. it is in actuality
a gravel ridge running through owners property. When the gravel is removed, it
will be like a land leveling job. There will be no hole or pit. Any banks will
be sloped to a very flat slope and soil will be spread over the excavated area
so that the owner may again farm the land.
Inasmuch as this is a dry area, stagnant water will not exist.
There are no existing houses, ditches, roads or other improvements on adjacent
properties that the gravel operation would have any effect upon.
We hone that we have provided sufficient information so that the Planning
Commission can act on the request for a temporary gravel pit operation.
