CLINE MANAGER J LEWIS FRY CHIEF INSPECTOR DATE OF INSPECTION HARTFORD CONNECTICUT DENVER OFFICE BIG GAS AND ELECTRIC BUILDING DENVER 2. COLORADO June 21, 1961 REPORT OF INSPECTION 6/14./61 INSPECTOR R. S. Swanson County Jail, 91$ 9th Street, Greeley, Colorado LOCATION Water Tube Combination Boiler, Star, No. 1/C6056, 2/C6057, 3/C6058. Inspected internally and externally. The low water fuel cut-outs on each boiler are wired to include a manual switch, which if closed renders the particular low water device inoperative. This is done because each control can shut off all boilers. In the event only one boiler is used, then the hand switches of the controls on the other two boilers must be off. The wiring sh uld be re -arranged so tht the manual switch does not override the control under any conditions. These three controls, ana this is particularly true with the ones on the Nos. 1 and 3 boilers afe old. One of the controls was opened and found badly corroded, and practically inoperative. The float bowl was full of sludge. To place these controls in a satisfactory and safe condition, it is recommended that the heads of each control be replaced with a new or factory rebuilt head. The wiring to the low water fuel cut-out devices was found to be unsatisfactory for this applic-tion. WE recommend the substitution of No. 14AWB 1050 C machine tool wire. This wire will meet UL Requirements and is available at all supply houses selling Underwriters approved wiring. The low water column connection sh: :uld be provided with a drain pipe and valve of not less than 3/4" pipe size to flush out any sediment that may collect in the pipe and to permit testing.
