Subject: Reduce Speed Limit at I-25 and WCR 44
The following criteria was used to develop the recommended speed limit on WCR 44 using the
following references:
1) The manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (1988 Edition) Section 2B-10
2) Design Criteria from the Division of Highways, State of Colorado Design Manual, Sections
202.4, page 2-10 and 203.2A,page 2-17
The westbound traffic on WCR 44 approaching the I-25 Frontage Road is currently posted at 55
MPH. The eastbound traffic on State Highway 56 approaching I-25 Frontage Road is currently
posted at 35 MPH.
The site distance at the intersection of WCR 44 and the Frontage road is 350', and is not an adequate
stopping distance at this speed. Per the Design Criteria from the Division of Highways, a distance
of 550' is needed to stop safely at a speed of 55 MPH.
My recommendation is to post a 35 MPH sign for the eastbound lane to match the westbound lane
in order to regulate the traffic at the same rate of speed.
