Dear Ms. Shoeneman:
Thank you for your interest on the matter of environmental quality as it may be affected by
Moark Hatcheries. Your concerns aptly reflect those shared by the community of Roggen and
the Board of County Commissioners. The board is committed to holding Moark Hatcheries to
the constraints outlined in their Special Use Permit. Standards have been established therein to
help assure continued quality of life and public health for area residents. The Weld County
Health Department has been working very closely with Moark Hatcheries to provide them
with guidance in the development of their manure handling plans and odor and fly control and
abatement plans. At this time, final approval for these plans has not been completed.
I have forwarded your concerns regarding wind erosion control, flood control, odor control,
health factors, and minimal contamination control to Jeff Stoll, Director of Environmental
Protection Services, at the Weld County Health Department. He has assured me that he and
his staff are intimately aware of the sensitive nature of this application. They welcome ideas
from anyone who is interested. He and his staff have been communicating openly and
regularly with area residents to keep them informed of progress and to benefit from the
practical suggestions they can provide. If you would like to speak with Mr. Stoll, please call
970-353-0635, extension 2229.
Again, thank you for sharing your concerns with me. If I can assist you in any way, please
call me at 970-356-4000, extension 4200.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
