Dear Mayor Martinez:
I want to correct a point which you brought up in your guest opinion article printed in the
November 1241 Greeley Tribune and Johnstown Breeze. The point you made was". . . not to
expect any help from the Department of Local Affairs." I want you to know that the
Department, including myself, has never indicated to the town, or to you, that we would not
help the town. We have many services and will use our resources to assist you and the
community in a variety of ways.
Remember, I was asked to facilitate the discussions among the various municipalities and Weld
County to help you all develop an IGA on Urban Growth Areas. My role as a facilitator is to
help the entities come to an agreement. At meetings, I try to make sure everyone gets a chance
to voice their concerns and issues. I also discuss issues and concerns individually to help
everyone understand the other party's concerns. I hope you understand my role as a facilitator
and my role as an assistance-provider to the town.
I want to reiterate that my services and the Department's services and resources are here to
assist you and the town that you serve. I want you to know that the Department, including
myself, has never indicated to the town, or to you, that we would not help the town. If you have
any concerns or questions about this issue or the Department's services, please feel free to
