The first year funding by AmeriCorps and the plans for renewal have been accomplished because of the historical success of the Weld County Youth Conservation Corps' approach to teaching youth responsibility, teamwork, and giving back to their community, and the accomplishments of motivated youth who can see that their contributions improve their community. AmeriCorps funding has permitted our agency in making a beachhead to continue serving local youth and the community, but private foundations are necessary to make it permanent and enhance services to the local community.
