Box 758 TUD:(970)491-2323 Greeley, Colorado, 80632 Dear County Commissioners: My Hazardous Devices Technician,Li Karl Swenson, has advised me that the Greeley Police Department is replacing your explosive response truck with a new vehicle they have purchased. I understand that the old truck(a 1983 Ford,F-350,yellow 1 ton,VIN number IFDIF3767DRA0553g)has mileage in excess of 195,000 miles. In light of this, would you consider donating the truck to Colorado State University? Donating the truck will help us to continue a mutually beneficial relationship with Weld County and the Loveland, Greeley, Fort Collins, and CSU Police in responding to hazardous devices. • The truck, even with its high mileage, will meet our needs because we respond to fewer incidents annually than most agencies. • In order to quickly respond to and backup your staff in such emergencies,my technician needs to store equipment in a vehicle which is readily available and which can be used to transport equipment to a scene. • CSU recently received a surplus military explosives robot which we agreed (under terms stipulated by the Department of Defense)to make available to the law enforcement agencies listed above. My department does not have a vehicle heavy enough to safely tow the robot trailer, Presently, Lt. Swenson pulls the trailer behind his personal truck. His personal vehicle is not covered under CSU insurance policies, which concerns me. • Acquiring this vehicle would allow CSU Police the opportunity to continue to assist the citizens in your community as well as those in adjacent counties. • The University will be responsible for licensing and all fees involved in transferring the ownership of the vehicle. If you have any reservations regarding the above or would like to mention other terms for the donation of the truck, please contact me. Thank you for you consideration of this request, Sincerely, grvLt-Sb% Donn Hopkins Chief of Police In compliance with professional standards as established by the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Puller,Inc.
