Box 758 Greeley, Co 80631 Dear Mr. Baxter: This correspondence is for the consideration and review of the Board of County Commissioners regarding a five acre natural wetland park area incorporated within the Roth Subdivision of Weld County. At the time of the development of the subdivision a natural park was set aside for the use of the community. I have a deep concern for the well-being of this park. I spoke with Julie Chester in Zoning and Planning for Weld County and expressed my concerns to her. She checked with the Army Corps of Engineers and they agreed that the area is a designated wetland park. Julie also checked with the County Attorney and it was suggested that I file my concerns through this avenue. The park is frequently being used by motorcycles and four -wheelers. This is a fragile ecological area. The natural grasses and ground cover are delicate. Already, I feel irreversible damage has been done to the park due to the impact and numbers of motor vehicles on such a relatively small area. There is an abundance of birdlife which roost is the wetland area of the park as well as toads, turtles and salamanders. Due to the balance of the animal life nuisance insects, like mosquitos, are kept down. However, this area is being threatened due to improper usage. The request I have is that, as soon as possible, signs be posted in the park prohibiting motor vehicles. Better yet, would also be a sign explaining the delicate nature of a wetlands area. I understand resources are required for this request, however I feel it is extremely important for the survival of the park that the request be acted upon. It is important for the well-being of a human community to have areas like these kept intact. Please let me know of your discussion or if I can answer any questions regarding my concerns. I can be reached at work Monday through Friday at 686-7411 or at home after 4:00pm at 686-5512.
