Subject: National Highway System (NHS)
During 1992 and 1993, the Colorado Department of Transportation
(CDOT) developed the Colorado portion of the National Highway
System (NHS) which was required by Congressional Legislation
passed in 1991. The NHS consists of the Interstate Highway
System, a substantial percentage of the urban and rural principal
arterial system, and certain other routes for national defense
purposes. It was developed in cooperation with local, state, and
federal officials.
The NHS has been approved by Congress and a copy of the Colorado
portion is shown on the attached June 1997 map. We again express
our thanks for your excellent participation in this major
