September 25, 1998 TO THE BOARD
Ms. Constance Herbert, Chair
Weld County Commissioners
P. O. Box 758

Dear Ms. Herbert:
The purpose of this letter is to draw attention to the condition of Weld County Road 390, which
runs from Highway 14 to the Wyoming border, past the towns of Keota, Grover and Hereford.
Not only is this road in deplorable condition, but it is dangerous to the people who drive it. Our
athletic teams must use this road when they go toward the Sterling area or south to the Weldona
and Wiggins areas and it is definitely a hazard. There are deep potholes which cannot be avoided
if there is oncoming traffic. In the summer of 1996 our van carrying girls who were playing
summer ball in Sterling was involved in an accident which caused one girl to be hospitalized with
a broken pelvis as well as minor injuries to several other girls. We were fortunate that there
weren't more serious injuries at that time and we feel we have been patient in asking for
improvements to this road, but it has deteriorated to the point where it is truly a danger to those
who are on it.
We cannot think of another town in Weld County which does not have paved roads leading into
it. This road receives a lot of truck traffic and needs attention. We know that there are many
requests for the tax dollars but surely this should be a priority.
We would be happy to have you and the other Commissioners come to Grover and drive this road
with us so that we can share our concerns in person. We believe that when you see the condition
of this road that you will agree that your attention--and action--are vital. We will be contacting
you soon to see if we might set up a date when you and the other Commissioners could come out.
Thank you for your consideration.
