COLORADO SUBJECT: 35 MPH Speed Limit for WCR 34.5 - WCR 5
East to Mead City Limits
The referenced roadway segment is maintained by the County and has an aggregate surface. The
Health Department has referred a dust complaint to the department, and traffic counts indicate the
average daily count to be over 470 vehicles per day.
State regulations require measures be taken to abate dust on roadways when traffic counts exceed
200 vehicles per day.
The roadway segment has been approved by the Board for paving in the 1999 Work Plan. Our work
schedule does not contemplate the work to be completed until April or May.
As an interim abatement measure, I recommend the speed limit be reduced from 55 MPH to 35
MPH. In accordance with state regulations, this approach is an acceptable control measure.
