HomeMy WebLinkAbout992589.tiff WELD COUNTY COUNCIL REPORT TO THE PEOPLE - "' t _ October 21, 1999 The Weld County Council is mandated by the Home Rule Charter of Weld County, Colorado to report to the people the events that have shaped the previous quarter. This report summarizes the activities of the Weld County Council during the third quarter of the calendar year 1999. July 20, 1999 Council Meeting - Weld County Centennial Center • Parliamentarian Art Willis made a presentation to the Council summarizing parliamentary procedures. • The Council decided the Council Chair will be the official spokesman for the County Council to the media. • A fact-finding mission by Council members was arranged in response to a citizen's concern about the need for timely service from the Clerk and Recorder's Office. August 17, 1999 Council Meeting - New Raymer Community Center • New Raymer area residents spoke about the issues that concern them in northeast Weld County. Discussion was held on: roads, response times from the Sheriff Department and Coroner, property taxes, money from the Colorado Lottery, New Raymer-Stoneham Fire Protection District's responsibilities and funding, blind intersections, and funding for the northeast County Fair. • The Council discussed concerns that had been brought to Vice President Al Roberts including development in southwest Weld County and mailing Council minutes to citizens. • The Council reviewed the findings of President Dan Oster and Vice President Al Roberts' visit to the Clerk and Recorder's office on July 22, 1999. The Council also discussed the August 11 letter that had been sent to Ms. Suki Tsukamoto listing suggestions regarding the backlog of business in her department. September 21, 1999 Council Meeting -Weld County Centennial Center • Guest Speaker Mr. Don Sandoval, Regional Manager for the Department of Local Affairs, explained the history and mission of the Department of Local Affairs. He also explained the aid available to local government officials when assistance is needing with selection and interview processes. • It was determined that the Council would send Council minutes to citizens continuing to request them until this matter could be addressed in more detail at the October Council meeting. • The bouncil determined assignments for individual Council members to accomplish as part of the Council's response to citizens' concerns regarding the Coroner's office and the Clerk and Recorder's Department. During the third quarter of 1999, Council members have researched answers to questions and concerns brought to their attention by citizens of Weld County. In that process Council members have talked periodically with the Commissioners and various Elected Officials and Department Heads. /�'' 5j 992589 Weld County Council Report to the People October 19, 1999 Page 2 of 2 This report is not meant to be an exclusive enumeration of the activities entered into by the Council. It is, however, an attempt to communicate with the voters regarding its activities.
