Messrs. Webster and Becker:
We live on Weld County Road 45 off of Highway 34. In the
past few weeks, our property has flooded twice from the South
Platte River. Both times the water poured across the county
road and into our property.
The first time we were flooded, it started about 2:30 a.m.,
Wednesday May 31. The county closed Road 45 about 9 a.m.
The second time, the water started across the road about 7:15
a.m. on Saturday, June 10. We never saw a county vehicle.
The water washed the road very badly, resulting in the east
lane being significantly lower and rutted. I called the
county offices Monday morning and asked them to fix it. They
graciously fixed it that same day.
My other request when I called on Monday, June 12, was a
request for help with the ditches. On each side of Road 45
are large ditches --three to four foot across and deep. These
exist from Highway 34 south to the top of the hill. These
ditches hold a lot of water that reduces the flooding on our
property. During these two floods, gravel, rocks and dirt
have moved from the county road into the ditches --almost
filling them in some places. Restoring the ditches will take
a backhoe or some type of heavy equipment and skill that we
do not have. Is it possible for the county to remake our
ditches? It is a very comforting feeling in the middle of
the night to know that the ditches are there and can hold A
LOT of water. At the moment, we do not have that feeling of
security.
My family would appreciate any help the county can provide.
Thank you for your consideration.
